Samak Rice Idli

Samak Rice Idli is a delicious main dish recipe that is perfect for those who are fasting this Navratri. It is prepared using sago or sabudana, samak rice, sendha namak, baking soda and water.


This South Indian recipe is not just filling for the stomach but also satiates the foodie in you! You can serve this idli recipe with coconut chutney to make it even more flavorful.

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cup samak chawal

  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 cup sago

  • sendha namak as required

  • 1/2 teaspoon refined oil

Procedure:

  • To prepare this snack recipe, wash the sago and samak rice under running water. Now, add them in separate bowls and soak them in water for a few hours. Once done, drain the excess water and transfer it into a food processor. Run it on high speed until both sago and rice turn into a smooth paste. Transfer this batter in a bowl and allow it to ferment overnight or fro 8-10 hours.

  • Check the batter and add salt along with baking soda in it, mix well. Next, grease the idli stand with a little oil and add the idli batter in the moulds, then place the stand in the steamer. Steam the idlis for 7-10 minutes. Once done, take these out from the steamer and transfer onto a platter. Serve samaka rice idli warm with coconut chutney to enjoy!
